孔廟the temple has been destroyed and reconstructed over the centuries; today it comprises more than 100 buildings. 是中國現存最大的四大古建築群之一。整個孔廟總面績大約20万平方米，呈長方形，南北約長1100米，延中中軸線左右對稱，佈局嚴謹 有院落九进，建筑物466座

孔林The cemetery contains Confucius' tomb and the remains of more than 100,000 of his descendants. 原稱至聖林，是孔子及其後裔的專用墓地。孔子死後，其墓地僅是「墓而不墳」，隨孔子地位的提高，孔林的規模也日益擴大，經過歷代的重修，增修，至今面積已達2平方公里(200萬平方米)；其中埋葬孔子長孫已至第七十六代，旁系子孫已至七十八代，為世界上延時最久，面積最大的氏族墓地。

孔府The small house of the Kong family developed into a gigantic aristocratic residence, of which 152 buildings remain.孔府，又稱衍聖公府，現在的孔府占地16万平方米，有463個房間，是中國封建時期典型的建築

世界遺產標準

Cultural criteria
I. "to represent a masterpiece of human creative genius"; 代表一種獨特的藝術成就，一種創造性的天才傑作；
II. "to exhibit an important interchange of human values, over a span of time or within a cultural area of the world, on developments in architecture or technology, monumental arts, town-planning or landscape design";能在一定時期內或世界某一文化區域內，對建築藝術、紀念物藝術、城鎮規劃或景觀設計方面的發展產生極大影響；
III. "to bear a unique or at least exceptional testimony to a cultural tradition or to a civilization which is living or which has disappeared";能為一種已消逝的文明或文化傳統提供一種獨特的至少是特殊的見證；
IV. "to be an outstanding example of a type of building, architectural or technological ensemble or landscape which illustrates (a) significant stage(s) in human history";可作為一種建築或建築群或景觀的傑出範例，展示出入類歷史上一個或幾個重要階段；
V. "to be an outstanding example of a traditional human settlement, land-use, or sea-use which is representative of a culture (or cultures), or human interaction with the environment especially when it has become vulnerable under the impact of irreversible change";可作為傳統的人類居住地或使用地的傑出範例，代表一種(或幾種)文化，尤其在不可逆轉之變化的影響下變得易於損壞，
VI. "to be directly or tangibly associated with events or living traditions, with ideas, or with beliefs, with artistic and literary works of outstanding universal significance. (The Committee considers that this criterion should preferably be used in conjunction with other criteria)"; 與具特殊普遍意義的事件或現行傳統或思想或信仰或文學藝術作品有直接或實質的聯繫。(只有在某些特殊情況下或該項標準與其它標準一起作用時，此款才能成為列入《世界遺產名錄》的理由)。
Natural criteria
VII. "to contain superlative natural phenomena or areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance";獨特、稀有或絕妙的自然現象、地貌或具有罕見自然美的地帶；
VIII. "to be outstanding examples representing major stages of earth's history, including the record of life, significant on-going geological processes in the development of landforms, or significant geomorphic or physiographic features"; 構成代表地球演化史中重要階段的突出例證；
IX. "to be outstanding examples representing significant on-going ecological and biological processes in the evolution and development of terrestrial, fresh water, coastal and marine ecosystems and communities of plants and animals";構成代表進行中的重要地質過程、生物演化 過程以及人類與自然環境相互關係的突出例證；
X. "to contain the most important and significant natural habitats for in-site conservation of biological diversity, including those containing threatened species of outstanding universal value from the point of view of science or conservation." 尚存的珍稀或瀕危動植物種的棲息地。
